

All these attributes don’t quite make for a complex movie, rather, they make for a complicated one. An attempt at a tech thriller with no thrill. Perfect Stranger sometimes feels like little more than an attempt.

They possess neither the familiarity to be relatable, nor the horror to be daunting. Most things going on in Rowena’s (Halle Berry) mind are completely unknown to the audience. Perfect Stranger seems like a sequel, or a second season of a series, rather than a standalone film. Most pertinently, it doesn’t have any sense of precedence, or a handful of seasons of goodwill in the bag. An opening that seems connected to the entirety of the story but is loosely relevant to it a high-stakes mid-point that isn’t really high stakes and a twist at the end that is both too good to be true and underwhelming.Įxcept Perfect Stranger doesn’t quite have a character with a great personality, sense of dare, and a panache for telling wonderful anecdotes.
