I don’t know about you but I personally find it degrading and demeaning to those whose life was lost due to the lack of the very natural thing they deserved in this world “Food & Water”. Remember, these jokes do not only insult you, but they insult those who died in 1984 and still are dying because of hunger.
So instead of laughing at ourselves with the rest of the world, I say we move on to fighting the cause.
We have a dark side in our recent history and it just so happens, the majority of the world only knows about that side of our story. The pshycological effect is that jokes like this, each time they are told, they automatically link to a familiar expected behaviour, which is why you find yourselves a little shy and cautious around people of different nationalities, ’cause deep inside you worry if they think of you a little differently just because you’re Ethiopian. To me, jokes like this that rely on stereotypes are just not funny at all. If you tell me that everytime you hear jokes like this posted on this blog, and you as Ethiopian don’t get a little upset, then I gotta give it to you for being such an exceptionally open minded person.
Why do you think jokes are usually not as funny when you hear them repeatedly? Marvin Minsky in “Society of Minds” once said in his book that “jokes and laughter are mechanisms for the brain to learn nonsense”. I wish I could share the same views and openions on Ethiopian jokes in particular and African jokes in general. if you know the saying Asmechi Na Lakih import and exporter ….apparently that is what they say about all guys who bring girls to the US and the girls end up leaving them! once her greencard was finished she dissappeared…. …Īnyways he ended up bringing a girl from ethiopia. The only thing was that he thought they had tore up feet… apparently he thinks that most ethiopian girls had hard bottom on the feet. So he went for three months and then he would email my friend with updates… he would also give some of the girls money… and then would sleep with him… so after a month he emails and said that he slept with 13 girls in one month… he said that they are so hot amazing minamin…
Regardless, a friend of mine had a african american friend and since he saw a lot of cute abesha girls who are friends with us… he decided to go to Ethiopia to find a wife… he figured it would be easier to find one that was really hot and also who is willing to marry him right away… since he is american… We are skinny, poor and hungry… that is it… Rosi, that is the whole point, what else can they joke about other than our rehab… for the somalians they joke about being poor… i guess they can do that as well… H ahaha Celebrate…thats funny for a whole chicken ! enatun ena!:) your sis did excellent!
